AS Media Studies - written assessment

AS Media Studies - Written Assignment

The story I was trying to tell was a three boys who was interested in going to a football match and how two people had tickets to the game and the third started to get jealous that they wasn't invited. That person then got an invite to the match and it also shows how the day went but not including the match itself.

We wasn't able to include all the different camera shots as we needed to get things that wasn't going to be possible to do the shots. For example; we would have needed a crane to do the crane shot. We did attempt every shot including the crane shot by using the biggest thing that we could find really but it still was obviously not going to be the same feeling.

When we did the rolling shot we couldn't think of much too associate it with so we just acted as if we was feeling extremely dizzy and  not knowing much about what was actually going on. We also included the POV shot by having the jealous one asking the other two about what they was talking about. We also used the POV shot to show that the jealous one was interested in listening to what everyone was saying at all times.

We chose to use the rolling shot in the way we did as we didn't have much in mind about what we could associate it with so it was a bit of a random shot. We used the high shot in the way we did as we wanted to show that they was being stalked by someone but we then found out that it wasn't danger but just the jealous friend trying to listen to what they said. We also chose to use the low shot in the way we did as we wanted to make the two characters seem larger than life.

Most of our choices were successful as most of the shots connected into the story. Two of the shots were quite unsuccessful. They were the rolling shot and the low shot. Their wasn't much need to do the low shot and to show the two characters looking larger than life as they wasn't being presented as being hard men or a strong and powerful character. The rolling shot was in the film as it was a camera shot that we haven't actually done yet. As i said before, it was just a random shot which we didn't know much too associate it with.

We managed to hold the shot steady mostly because we left it on the tripod at all times for almost every shot. The only shot we didn't use the tripod for was the POV. That is only because it is from someone's point of view and not from the tripods point of view.

Overall the most positive elements of my film is the camera work. It was the first time I personally had actually used that type of camera. So it gave me good experience for the future when i use cameras.
An improvement i could have made was to do my editing better as it was taped over before from the previous group which wrote over some of our work.
