Preliminary Task Evaluation

Preliminary Task Evaluation

The preliminary task started with Jack walking into a room to have an already arranged meeting with Reece. As Jack walks into the room, he sees Reece sitting on four chairs for an unknown reason; possibly to assert his dominance or maybe he just fancied a change. Jack then walked towards his seat to have a conversation with Reece in which neither looked like they wanted to be there and wanted to get the meeting over as soon as possible. It then comes apparent why they wanted to leave as soon as possible; it was a drug deal. This is known when Jack asks Reece if he has the package and Reece asks in response for the money. They then hand each other what they want, both stand up and shakehands. Bringing the meeting to an end. Then you see Jack walk out and you see Emma and I walking in the opposite direction past Jack. You then see us walk straight into the room in which Jack just walked out from where you see Reece still sitting exactly where he was when Jack was there. Emma and I then walked into the room towards Reece who looked quite relaxed and smug possibly due to him completing the deal with great success. Then I asked whether or not Reece has the money which hed then replied "no!" This then made me angry as I knew he was lying and he had the money; so I shot him. Reece died, Emma picked up the money and without a hint of guilt, we walked away.

In the preliminary task, we included all of the listed shots. We used Match on Action in the scene when Jack walks into the room. The camera is first outside the room, filming Jack opening the door and walking in. Then the camera is in the room watching Jack walking in and closing the door. We then used Eye Line Match, when Emma and I watch Reece die, we have a shot of Emma and my face. Then it cuts to a shot of Reece's face. We also included shot, reverse shot in the film during the meeting between Reece and Jack. When Jack is talking we cut to a shot of his face and then when Reece is talking we cut to a shot of his face. Also in our film, we followed the 180 degree rule; especially when Jack and Reece have their meeting, we ensured that we never crossed the line.

In my opinion, throughout the film we correctly and accurately used all of the techniques. On the other hand, I feel we may need a better understanding of the 180 degree rule. Also, I think that we could have included the techniques clearer in our task so i could be certain of the techniques.

Overall, I believe the editing in our film was particularly pleasing. As well, I think our planning of the film was good as we stuck to our storyboard. Although I was extremely pleased with the film, something to improve would be some peoples cinematography. The editing was made harder by some people needing to improve their skills at cinematography. In my opinion, the piece was successful as we included all of the techniques.
